 Blessings

May Day is this Wednesday, May 1st.  Although the giving of May baskets does not seem to be as popular as it once was.  Wouldn't it be great to bring back this tradition, bringing a gift of joy to someone's day. Whether it be candy, flowers or an uplifting message, it's up to each of us to spread kindness.

Leader:  7 The angel of the Lord found Hagar near a spring in                  the desert; it was the spring that is beside the road to Shur.

All:  8 And he said, “Hagar, slave of Sarai, where have you come from, and where are you going?” “I’m running away from my mistress Sarai,” she answered.

Leader:  9 Then the angel of the Lord told her, “Go back to your mistress and submit to her.”

All:  10 The angel added, “I will increase your descendants so much that they will be too numerous to count.”

Leader:  11 The angel of the Lord also said to her:
“You are now pregnant and you will give birth to a son. You shall name him Ishmael, for the Lord has heard of your misery.

All:  12  He will be a wild donkey of a man;
his hand will be against everyone
      and everyone’s hand against him,
and he will live in hostility
      toward all his brothers.”

Leader:  13 She gave this name to the Lord who spoke to her: “You are the God who sees me,” for she said, “I have now seen the One who sees me.”

All:  14 That is why the well was called Beer Lahai Roi; it is still there, between Kadesh and Bered.

Every day, God gives us opportunities to sow spiritual seeds into the lives of others.~ Tammy Kennington

Never underestimate the power of planting a seed. There is no greater task than to plant the seed of God's truth into your children's hearts.

I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth.  3 John 1:4

Responsive Reading: Isaiah 9:1-7

Leader: 9 Nevertheless, there will be no more gloom for those who were in distress. In the past he humbled the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, but in the future he will honor Galilee of the nations, by the Way of the Sea, beyond the Jordan—

All: 2 The people walking in darkness have seen a great light;
on those living in the land of deep darkness a light has dawned.

Leader: 3 You have enlarged the nation and increased their joy; they rejoice before you as people rejoice at the harvest, as warriors rejoice when dividing the plunder.

All: 4 For as in the day of Midian’s defeat, you have shattered the yoke that burdens them, the bar across their shoulders, the rod of their oppressor.

Leader: 5 Every warrior’s boot used in battle and every garment rolled in blood will be destined for burning, will be fuel for the fire.

All: 6 For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

Leader: 7 Of the greatness of his government and peace there will be no end. He will reign on David’s throne and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever.

All: The zeal of the Lord Almighty will accomplish this.

Hymn “In The Garden

Praise and Prayer

Responsive Reading: John 20:19-31

Jesus Appears to His Disciples

Leader 19 On the evening of that first day of the week, when the
disciples were together, with the doors locked for fear of the Jewish
leaders, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with
you!”

All 20 After he said this, he showed them his hands and side. The
disciples were overjoyed when they saw the Lord.

Leader 21 Again Jesus said, “Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.”

All 22 And with that he breathed on them and said, “Receive the
Holy Spirit.

Leader 23 If you forgive anyone’s sins, their sins are forgiven; if you
do not forgive them, they are not forgiven.”

Jesus Appears to Thomas

All 24 Now Thomas (also known as Didymus[a]), one of the Twelve,
was not with the disciples when Jesus came.

Leader 25 So the other disciples told him, “We have seen the Lord!”
But he said to them, “Unless I see the nail marks in his hands and put
my finger where the nails were, and put my hand into his side, I will
not believe.”

All 26 A week later his disciples were in the house again, and Thomas
was with them. Though the doors were locked, Jesus came and stood
among them and said, “Peace be with you!”

Leader 27 Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here; see my
hands. Reach out your hand and put it into my side. Stop doubting
and believe.”

All 28 Thomas said to him, “My Lord and my God!”

Leader 29 Then Jesus told him, “Because you have seen me, you have
believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.”

The Purpose of John’s Gospel

All 30 Jesus performed many other signs in the presence of his
disciples, which are not recorded in this book.

Leader 31 But these are written that you may believe[b] that Jesus is
the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.
