Memorial Day... Let us Remember and Honor.

I took this photo over the weekend of the High Creek Baptist Church/Cemetery located in Atchison County Missouri. I've always thought this was one of the neatest little country churches. It's very well maintained and sits in a beautiful landscaped setting. ~Mindy

 May 29-30
Good Morning!

Birthday greetings to Patricia Bohlen on June 1!

We received news JoAnn Birkby's sister-in-law, Sharon Weston passed away. Please uplift the family in prayer.

The church board decided to have a congregational meeting on Sunday, June 27 at 10:00 at the church. This will be a meeting, and not a church service. Everyone is invited to come and share your ideas about the future of our church.

On this Memorial Day weekend, we remember the men and women who died so we can be free.
The first video is "God Bless the USA" by Lee Greenwood. Did you know Mr. Greenwood performed at a memorial service in Omaha last night?
The second video is "America, the Beautiful." This video reminded me of when I was teaching and had the students draw pictures to illustrate this song.

We also remember family and friends who have passed on. Peonies were one of Jan's mother's favorite flowers, so we always place a bouquet of them on her grave.
Enjoy the holiday weekend!  Mary

Happy Sunday!  Thought I'd share a book I've started reading... "Every Day Spirit, A Daybook of Wisdom, Joy and Peace by Mary Davis.  In her words, "it is a collection of stories, devotions, musings, lessons, practices and prayers."    ~Mindy

Bless my eyes to see goodness.

Bless my words to speak kindness.

Bless my heart to feel compassion.

Good Morning!

Congratulations and best wishes to all the students who are graduating from Sidney High School this Sunday!

Please keep these people in your prayers as they are having health problems: Penny's husband, daughter, and niece; Diane, Babe.
Pray for Ryan, the boy who is missing in LaVista, and his family.

Happy Birthday to Betty Moyer on Wednesday, May 26!

The board will have a meeting on Monday, May 24 at 1:00 at the church to begin the discussion of what will happen to our church in the future. Please share any ideas you have with one of the board members (Jan, Marcia, Joan, Jim, Jerry, Nancy). There will be a congregational meeting before any final decision is made.

We are celebrating Pentecost this Sunday. You can read Acts 2:1-21.

The first video is "Spirit of the Living God." Mindy requested another song by the little girl, Claire Crosby, so the second video is "Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing."
Have a wonderful week! Mary

God's handiwork is everywhere, in the mountains and the plains, when the sun is shining and even when it rains.  I hope as you go about the things you must do today, that God's handiwork is evident, with little blessings along the way.  ~Sharon Ezzell

May 15 - 16

Good Morning!

We will continue to pray for Sharon, Kris, and Rosemary.  We can pray for students and teachers as they finish up their school year, and farmers as they complete their planting.  JoAnn and Jerry were able to have a special dinner with Barb and Lynn last night. They also have enjoyed time with their great-grandchildren.

Don Baker will celebrate his birthday on May 22nd!

Ascension Day was Thursday, May 13.  You might want to read Acts 1:1-11.

Beth requested a video of  "Moment by Moment."  Phyllis asked for "How Great Thou Art."

Happy Mother's Day!

We pray for God's blessings for all the wonderful ladies of our church. We hope you have a very special day!

Birthday greetings to Rusty Raymond on the 14th and Katie Johnson on the 10th.  Katie is about to have another baby very soon!

Please continue to pray for Sharon, Rosemary, and Kristin.

The Sidney High School concert band and choir both got 1's at Large Group Contest!  They were absolutely amazing!

Thank you to Beth and Phyllis for requesting songs.  I will use them next week, since the videos this week are for Mother's Day.

The videos this week are:

A Mother's Day Blessing

A Mother's Love

Thank you also to the people who shared memories of their mothers.

Phyllis shared: My mom has been gone for several years.  My mom was a wonderful cook, she could make a meal out of nothing.  Every time I make something that my mother used to make, it never tastes as good as hers.

Penny shared: My mom always had a pleasant look on her face and was very loving and fun. Even though I was only 12 when she passed away, I think of her everyday. I am also blessed with a wonderful step mom.

Mary shared: My mom was a marvelous cook too! I think part of the reason ladies back then were such good cooks is they had so much practice.  My mom made three meals a day, seven days a week most of her married life.  We rarely went out to eat.  My dad always said, "Why go out to eat when I have the best cook at home!"  Two of my favorite things that Mom made were pork chops and rhubarb pie.

Sunday, May 2, 2021

 Good Morning everyone!

Saturday was May Day.  Who has fond memories of making and taking small baskets of flowers, candies, little surprises, and leaving them on the doorsteps of friends?!  Not only was it a fun tradition, without realizing, we were actually spreading little acts of kindness. Wouldn't it be great instead of just focusing on the one day, we use the entire month of May to spread kindness?  There are lots of ways to brighten someone's day. We should bring back this old tradition making it even better, by choosing every day to show gestures of kindness! ~ Mindy

May 1 - 2

Happy May Day!  Did any of you make May baskets this year?  I remember Phyllis helped us make wonderful baskets to share with friends and neighbors.

Our family celebrated our future daughter-in-law's birthday on Friday.  Aaron grilled hamburgers for the first time this season.

Please remember JoAnn's sister-in-law, Sharon, and Rosemary in your prayers.  I encourage you to text me your favorite hymn and I will try to find a video to go with it.  JoAnn requested a video of "On Eagle's Wings" with the lyrics.  I remember "Hymn of Promise" was one of Nancy's favorite songs.  ~ Mary Zach

To elaborate more on today's captured moment, after I wrote my thoughts under today's header picture reminiscing on May baskets and my thoughts on how we should continue the tradition today and  perhaps use the whole month of May to practice kindness, I decided to look back through some May blog posts looking for a picture to share.  I came across these thoughts written by Pastor Blaine in 2016.  After reading, look at the very first sentence and then the very last sentence.  He said "May is a month full of opportunities to serve and give thanks in a variety of ways." And to  "let May be the 'take the time' month to serve the Lord with a small act of gratitude and kindness."

I smiled and thought to myself,  "see Pastor Blaine, I was listening.  Every Sunday, I was listening."  ~Mindy
