The world waits for a miracle
The heart longs for a little bit of hope
O come, O come, Emmanuel...

Responsive Reading

Leader: We have been given some explicit instructions on how to wait
as followers of Jesus. The entire New Testament is all about how we
wait actively. We start now, by the grace of God, to live by the law of
love that is the core of the Kingdom of God, that Jesus gave us.
All: Jesus commanded: Love God:
Leader: Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment.” (Matthew 22:37-38)
All: Jesus commanded: Love your neighbors:
Leader: “‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.” (Matthew 22:39-40)
All: Jesus commanded: Love your fellow Christians:
Leader: A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another. (John 13:34-35)
All: Jesus commanded: Love your enemies:
Leader: “You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be children of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? And if you greet only your own people, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that? Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.” (Matthew 5:43-48)
Leader: Our hands are not tied behind our backs, our hearts are not
blocked. Jesus has released us to live God’s future now! Those are
our marching orders!
