Pastor’s Thoughts

Spring is here!  Praise the Lord! I thoroughly enjoy the longer warmer days and, although my allergies are always an issue, the beauty of the flowers, trees and crops breaking forth from the ground create a song of praise to the Creator of the universe.

However on a more serious thought, addictions are prevalent in our society today.  Addictions can best be described as a habit forming behavior; that often alters life in a destructive way.  Addictions to drugs, prescription medication, alcohol, cigarettes, shopping, gambling, and even food.  These addictions can and often do produce destructive consequences to individuals, families, towns, communities and innocent others.

Have you ever considered some positive addictions that we as Christians should be engaged in?

Addictions to prayer- pray without ceasing.

Addictions to Worship- Remember the Sabbath and keep it holy.

Addictions to giving- More blessed to give than to receive.

Addictions to serving- Be doers of the Word.

Addictions to Scripture- All Scripture is inspired by God.

Addictions to Christ- Grow in Christ likeness.

These Spiritual addictions have several outcomes; they’ll relieve stress, promote inner peace, create joy, encourage kindness, and will draw us ever nearer to our Savior and Lord Jesus Christ.

Let’s get high on Jesus.

Spring Flowers and Lightning

 

Here are some pictures to share with you taken of our pretty spring flowers that have begun to bloom.

 

 

I personally wasn’t in church last Sunday but I guess for those that were, it was quite an experience! They heard a loud boom and discovered that lightning apparently struck this tree out front.  You can see where it removed the bark.  A little too close for comfort I’d say!

Making May Baskets

  A few of us stayed after church last Sunday to make some May Baskets and we were very happy to have the much needed help of Evan Lang.  As you can see, he took his job very seriously and turned out some wonderful baskets. Thanks Evan, you did an awesome job!

Secretary Snippets

Nancy Newlon's observed in the last newsletter that spring isn't just a
season for yearly planting and flowering, but one of renewal of our
spirit.  Let's sweep out the cobwebs of old thoughts, tired feelings,
resentments, and rejuvenate our faith with clear thinking, fresh
prayers, and the sound of original ideas. We may be following traditions
established over time, however there is always something new around us
ad we grow, learn and see the changes in the world.
*This year, as we ready for the Easter season celebrations, there are
members of our congregation who have new jobs and horizons, studied near
and far, celebrated milestones, welcomed new babies into the family, and
so forth.  All these things color our thoughts and prayers in creative
ways.  As we attend Palm Sunday pancake breakfast and service, Maundy
Thursday dinner, and Easter service, what is there new in our hearts
that makes everything so bright and hopeful?
*At the beginning of April how about a group of us getting together to
help Phyllis Layman make May Baskets on the 6th after the morning
service.  Jan Zach will be directing the kitchen crew for the 8:30
pancake breakfast on Palm Sunday.  Paul will furnish palm branches for
the service.  Barb and Joan will bring wine for the Maundy Thursday
dinner at 7:00 p.m.on the 17th.  Also plan on Bible Study to take place
the first and fourth Sunday of April.  You might also notice attention
being given to the garden by Nancy and friends. Come join the activity!
