Responsive Scripture Reading

Leader: The story of Jesus is punctuated with an admonition: “Fear
Not!” When God works, some may be scared speechless, but we are
not to fear because our sovereign God is always in control.

Reader 1: Zechariah may have been terrified when the angel arrived,
yet he had no cause for fear: But the angel said, “Do not be afraid,
Zechariah, because your prayer has been heard. Your wife, Elizabeth,
will give birth to your son, and you will name him John. (Luke 1:13).

Leader: Mary was undoubtedly startled when Gabriel appeared, but
she had no reason to fear: The angel spoke to her, l”Do not be afraid,
try, for you have found favor with God. Behold, you will become
pregnant, and give birth to a son, and you shall call His name Yeshua”
(Luke 1:30-31).

Reader 1: Joseph didn’t know what to do about his pregnant fiancee,,
but assurance soon arrived: Behold, an angel of ADONAI appeared
to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to
take Mary as your wife, for the Child conceived in her is from the
Holy Spirit” (Matthew 1:20).

Leader: The shepherds stared in astonished wonder, but the
messenger brought an amazing report: But the angel said to them,
“Do not be afraid! For behold I proclaim Good News to you, which
will be great joy to all the people. A Savior born to you today in the
city of David, who is Messiah the Lord” (Luke 2:10-11).

Reader 1: Simon Peter must have thought he was dreaming when his
nets broke from the weight of so many fish, but Jesus assured him that
he hadn’t see anything yet: Do not be afraid. From now on, you will
be catching men’” (Luke 5:10).

Leader: Fear not, brothers and sisters in Christ! Tomorrow, resolve to
live with courage even if you don’t feel courageous. Take risks for the
Lord, and don’t worry. Your heavenly Father loves you, He cares for
you, and He’s willing to use your life in way you can’t even imagine.

Old churches must not simply stand as monuments to the past but as spiritual grandparents that have invested in the future by passing on their life to others and releasing their offspring to form new congregations. ~ unknown
